QUESTIONS TO ASK IN THE INTERVIEW


At some point, usually at the conclusion of the interview, you may be asked, "Do you have any questions?" A common answer to this question is, "No, I think you've covered everything very well." This is the wrong answer! You have passed up your opportunity to ask some critical questions that may make a difference as to whether you want to work for this company. Here some of the sample questions.
  1. Could you tell me about the way the job has been performed in the past? And, what improvements you'd like to see happen?
  2. How many people have held this position in the last two years?
  3. What is the top priority of the person who accepts this job?
  4. What kind of turnover rate does the company have?
  5. What are the day-to-day expectations and responsibilities of this job?
  6. With whom will I be working most closely?
  7. What are the challenges I would face in this position over the next three months?
  8. Describe the typical responsibilities of the position.
  9. How will my leadership responsibilities and performance be measured? And by whom? How often?
  10. Can you describe the company's management style?
  11. What are the company's values?
  12. What do you like about working for this company?
  13. May I ask what your background with the company is?
  14. What are the company's long and short term goals?
  15. How would you characterize the management philosophy of this organization? Of your department?
  16. What happened to the person that held this position before? Was he promoted or fired?
  17. What is the organization's policy on transfers to other divisions or other offices?
  18. Are lateral or rotational job moves available?
  19. How would you describe your management style and interaction with your staff?
  20. Does the organization support ongoing training and education for employees to stay current in their fields?
  21. What do you think is the greatest opportunity facing the organization in the near future? The biggest threat?
  22. How is this department perceived within the organization?
  23. Is there a formal process for advancement within the organization?
  24. When can I expect to hear from you?
  25. What are the traits and skills of people who are the most successful within the organization?
  26. I am very interested in pursuing this job further. What is the next step in the hiring process?
